Since retiring from the Property & Casualty insurance industry, John has served as a Career Coach for Goodwill and North Fulton Community Charities. He established his own business, North Star Career Coaching in 2013. He brings the perspective of someone who was a hiring manager for well over thirty years to his coaching practice. John has worked with a wide range of individuals including people who are beginning their careers, seeking career change, or pursuing new jobs in their chosen field, as well as entrepreneurs and business owners. More specifically, John works with people on a wide variety of skills needed for a successful and enriching career search including self assessments, networking, resume development, interview skills and creating comprehensive and effective search plans.
John has held several executive level positions in sales and marketing, underwriting and claims management during his career in the insurance industry. He is considered a well rounded general manager whose expertise includes organizational change, team building, and project management, as well as coaching and mentoring. John has the unique ability to work effectively with executives in the C-Suite as well as new employees fresh out of school. While at CIGNA, John developed a partnership with The University of Georgia’s Department of Risk Management and Insurance surrounding the recruiting and mentoring functions. He expanded that relationship at Travelers to UGA’s entire Terry College of Business where he was a frequent speaker. Notably, he was instrumental in developing the inaugural Terry College Diversity Business Expo and was the lead speaker for that event.
John graduated from Wagner College in New York City with a degree in English Literature. He has published several articles in insurance industry publications and was a frequent speaker and panelist at industry events. John is certified as a Sales Trainer and Coach by Achieve Global. Currently he is a member of the International Coach Federation. John is active as a volunteer in his community and serves as a Board Member and Treasurer for the River Glen Homeowners Association.
